Online democracy: A dream for a world in migration?

Politics & Society
re:publica Dublin 2016

Description:

What have Estonia, Philippines, Australia and the Swiss cantons in common? They elect their parliamnet online. With so many other processes now moving online, elections are a logical step. But not only in the politic field.

Online voting in political elections is not yet possible in many other countries but it is in companies and partly state-owned corporations. We‘ll give you some input about the current e-voting situation in other countries and our experiences with church, corporation and organization elections – based on this we would like to start the discussion with you.

What are the advantages and the risks? What influence can online voting have on society? Is it good, that citizens, who live in another country, could vote more easily?

Let us think about different scenarios how a political system could look like with online voting.
