Web Literacy: How Wield the Web

Research & Education
re:publica 2015

Short thesis:

Learning and making are political. Technology will replicate the power dynamics of the past unless we learn and make with technology differently. The way we’ll create social change is through peer learning that is served by, but not subject to, technology. Web literacy enables us to wield the power of the web on our own terms.

Description:

Reading, writing and arithmetic. These are subjects we learn in school. They shape how we see and participate in the world. Today, however, we need new literacies. The web brings with it great opportunity. Yet we will replicate the powers of the past unless we teach the web, and teach it differently.  This session will share some testing, experiments and ambitions based on Mozilla's work in the field. We'll learn about web literacy and how to put these ideas into action.
